We need to understand that all the treasures which are valued precious like gold, diamonds, trendy dresses, luxurious bungalows, high-end mobiles, chic cars and lissome beautifies as our consorts may become our bete-noires. We quarantine ourselves behind the golden prisons of our own making. We gather many sycophants who swarm around us to partake of some of our affluence. We are surrounded by vultures who have no love for us. The wealthier we become more we become haughty and treat everything as a commodity. We sour relationships. We avoid true friends for the fear that they have their eyes on our wealth. We are not able to mingle with average people from the point of view of material riches. Our wealth incarcerates us and makes us vulnerable to being denuded of our wealth. At times our wealth may attract thieves and dacoits. Most of our relations are artificial. Our true friends desert us, and we are surrounded by crooks and mafias. These menacing and ominous thoughts keep tormenting us to no end. It is not that money is bad but the way we earn and put it to use. This single-minded focus on creating wealth to take care of the uncertain future that many of us resort to wily and devious means. This rat race has created a very vicious atmosphere where money rules at the cost of humanitarian considerations. We always have the mistaken notion that money can solve all the problems. Many strife-torn situations are created by the quest for money. With a legion of luxuries most of us are tempted to foray into any immoral business so long as it brings the moolah. There is one parable from ancient times. A king brags about his generosity that he can gift any amount of material wealth. One very wise sage wants to teach this king a lesson. He gives a gauntlet to the king. The sage has a human skull as his begging bowl. He asks the king to pour gems, jewels, diamond, and gold into that. The king asks his minister to gift the precious articles. They keep putting but still the skull is not filled. The king’s minister keeps on pouring valuables and
ultimately exhausts all the king’s treasures. Ultimately the king is intrigued and piqued by the enigmatic sage and asks the sage to explain. The sage then says the begging bowl is in fact man’s mind which keeps on asking for more and more without getting satiated.
Now, the other paradigm is that our real wealth is our virtues of humanity, compassion, wisdom, love, honesty and understanding. When we are bereft of lust, we create an aura which attracts the right people. Those who have real wealth enlisted above they experience supreme bliss, joy, health, and happiness. They have genuine friends who would keep their lives in case of a calamitous situation. Those endowed with these virtues enjoy phenomenal freedom which any amount of wealth can not assure. We get good sleep, and our conscience is clear, and we have no grudge against anybody. These virtues are invaluable assets which burgeon by sharing. Nobody can steal or purloin these assets as they are intangible. One parable goes like this. A lady saint is carrying a very precious and costly gem in her hand. A beggar requests the saint to give the gem as alms to him as that would solve his problems of poverty. She gifts the gem with great alacrity and happiness exuding on her face. The beggar extends his gratitude and thanks for the noble gesture. However, the beggar is unable to sleep as he is wondering how anyone can part with such a precious gem. Next day he searches for the lady saint and finding her asks her to take back the gem and gift him the virtue of generosity and contentment.
When we go deep into this wisdom that material riches are more of a nuisance than of help. On the other hand, real wealth of our character, virtues, and gentle behavior makes our lives truly purposeful and affluent in the real sense. When we foray into the venture of amassing wealth we compromise on principles and bonhomie. Most of the miseries on our beautiful planet is the rat race. Lets give this new paradigm a chance as that would create a salubrious human society free from bloody murders, crimes and wars.
